My work ethics and experiences started at a very early age. Doing a paper round before school 7 days a week, a weekend job gardening at a large care home, washing pots at a very busy restaurant.
My mother was the manager of a flooring store and my father was a floor fitter, so I grew up surrounded by flooring back in the 1970s and 1980s.
When I left school, 2 days later I started a CITB Painting and Decorating apprenticeship. Working on site for 3 months, then 3 months at Durham College for 3 years.
I knew my future was more about being a painter and decorator. I extended my travels around the world. Also living and working in Spain and Holland in multiple roles. At the age of 24, I decided I needed to test myself further and gain extensive qualifications.
I put myself through college to gain the qualification to get into university. This lead me to completing a 3-year BSc (hons) Combined Science degree.
Even though I will never use this qualification, the achievement and everything involved taught me a lot about myself, further life skills and people.
While living as a student, I noticed there was a gap in the market to improve the standard of living for students so I used my student loan as a deposit on a 4-bedroom property. This lead to purchasing 3 more property for reform and rental, which was unusual back in 1998.
The experience I gained from doing the reforms and being a landlord was priceless. At the same time I was working at Nissan on quality control for car engine parts to help fund the property purchases. After that, I finally did my training in floor installation with local firms and Ployflor, and became a full-time installer for 9 years with many large contracts. With all of this experience and skills, I branched out and ultimately created SDM Interiors, a place where we cover everything within property reforms and finishings. We are very well established in York city with a stellar reputation. We love what we do and pride ourselves on customer satisfaction and referrals.
I am originally from Bali, Indonesia. After gaining a marketing degree, my working background was in banking and media, When I moved to the UK I opened my horizons to adapt. I started working in a care home; this period included the very difficult COVID pandemic. I never missed a day’s work as I appreciated how short-staffed the home was, and as always, I give my all to help others. This led me to gain an NVQ in dementia care as well as other valuable life skills, morals and friendships.
With time, other opportunities came along that I could not ignore. I moved to the only 5 star hotel in York as a professional housekeeper. Within one year of training, learning, and working I was promoted to Supervisor, which has been a privilege for the last 4 years.
In addition to that I run a high-quality small team that has become to be known as “Glow Clean york”. We primarily do end-of-tenancy cleans to the highest standard and pricing. We also do holiday lets and domestic cleans.
